The Japanese ambassador Tsuyoshi Yamamoto met with our rector, Dr. Julio Del Valle; the vice-rector for Research, Dr. Eduardo Ismodes; Dr. María Antonieta Delgado, director of Academic Office of Institutional Affairs; and other authorities of our University to promote academic agreements and aspects of cultural and scientific exchange.
The ambassador of Japan in Peru, Mr. Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, visited our University on September 3 with the aim of strengthening the historical collaboration with the PUCP, as well as discussing greater opportunities for cooperation in new fields where the eastern country has with great progress.
Ambassador Yamamoto was accompanied by Ryo Ito, cultural attaché of the Japanese embassy. For his part, representing the PUCP, our rector, Dr. Julio del Valle, was present at the meeting; Dr. Eduardo Ismodes, vice-rector for Research; Dr. María Antonieta Delgado, director of the Academic Office of Institutional Affairs (DARI in spanish); Dr. Francisco Rumiche, dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering; Dr. Ricardo Sumalavia, director of the Center for Oriental Studies (COS); and Mr. Rubén Tang, advisor to the Vice-Rector’s Office for Research and in charge of the special project of the PUCP’s relations with academic institutions in Asia.
Among the topics discussed, the need to strengthen academic exchange agreements and stays at Japanese universities stood out, as well as the windows of synergy in culture and science through teachers and researchers from both countries.
Another important issue that was addressed included cooperation with Japanese companies; language teaching; and the willingness to facilitate closer contact with universities in Japan with faculties of Medicine, so that they share their experience with a view to PUCP’s aspiration to have a Faculty of Health Sciences.
Ambassador Yamamoto thanked the cordial reception and expressed to the rector, Julio del Valle, his willingness to support these and more initiatives for the benefit of the university community that result in the well-being and development of the country.
